Volleyball Player's Recovery from a Devastating Knee Injury

PUBLISHED ON Nov, 11, 2024

Victoria’s story is one of perseverance. A dedicated volleyball player, she faced a tough journey when she tore her ACL in 2020, an injury that would impact her life for years to come.

A Complicated Road to Recovery

It all started with a routine volleyball match that resulted in an ACL tear. But the real challenge came after her surgery. Just two weeks post-op, during a physical therapy session, Victoria experienced a rare complication—her kneecap cracked in half. This unexpected setback delayed her recovery by several months.

"While most people expect to return to sports within 9 months after ACL surgery, I knew I’d need even longer to let my kneecap heal as well," she recalls. The combined injuries forced her to slow down, sidelining her from the activities she loved and even making daily tasks difficult.

The emotional toll was significant too. "When I finally started becoming more active, the fear of re-injury was a constant mental and emotional challenge," Victoria shares. This fear followed her in every movement, affecting her confidence and overall well-being.

Finding The Right Tools

Even two years post-recovery, Victoria’s knee still didn’t feel right. Though she could engage in activities like biking and tennis, her knee wasn’t as strong as it needed to be, and playing volleyball at the level she desired felt out of reach.

That’s when the Hyper Pro came into play. "The Hyper Pro was a game-changer for me," Victoria explains. "It allowed me to strengthen the weak links in my posterior chain easily and from home."

As a busy business owner, having the ability to work out at home was essential for her. The convenience meant she could consistently integrate recovery exercises into her schedule, staying accountable and motivated. This consistency paid off, allowing her to return to her favorite sports without the constant fear of injury.

Key Movements for Recovery

Nordic Curls: For strengthening the knees & hamstrings in their weakest position. Victoria used the Hyper Pro at an incline and gradually worked her way to flat Nordic Reps.

Back Extensions: For rebuilding the muscles that became imbalanced after months of walking differently due to surgery.

Glute Ham Raises: For introducing explosive movements in a safe way while re-building the glutes.

These movements were the cornerstone of Victoria’s rehabilitation. "These movements not only strengthened my knee but also benefit my hips and back," she says.

After months of compensating for her knee injury, Victoria had developed back pain due to poor posture and walking mechanics. But the Hyper Pro allowed her to tackle both her knee and back problems simultaneously, creating a holistic solution to her recovery.

"These three exercises have been crucial not just for my knee recovery, but also in helping me become a stronger volleyball player overall. They addressed the full chain of muscles and movements needed for my sport and daily life."

Words of Advice for Others in Recovery

For those who find themselves dealing with chronic knee pain or post-surgery challenges, Victoria has one piece of advice: persevere.

"It’s easy to feel discouraged, especially when you’ve been dealing with pain or struggling with an injury for a long time," she reflects. "Remember, it’s not that nothing will work; you just haven’t found the right solution yet. For me, incorporating exercises on the Hyper Pro was more effective than any other solution I had tried."

Victoria encourages others to embrace the process and celebrate the small wins along the way. "Focus on what’s within your control and aim for gradual, consistent progress. The key is to stay committed to your recovery, no matter how slow it feels at times."

Conclusion: Small Wins, Big Recovery

Victoria’s story is one of hope, resilience, and the power of finding the right tools to aid in recovery. With the Hyper Pro, she regained the strength and confidence she needed, not just to play volleyball, but to feel strong in her everyday life again.
